2 home explosions in same San Antonio neighborhood injure 5
Two natural gas-fueled home explosions struck the same San Antonio neighborhood about two hours apart Tuesday, injuring five people, including a child, according to local and federal officials.
San Antonio Fire Chief Valerie Frausto said the first explosion happened at about 6 p.m. local time and the second at about 8 p.m. People were inside both homes when the blasts occurred.
Frausto said the second explosion happened two doors down from the first and caused similar damage. Five people were taken to hospitals with burn injuries from the two explosions, according to Frausto.
Local media reported that a family of three, a local pastor, a high school teacher and their teenage daughter, were injured in the first explosion and were in stable condition Wednesday. The conditions of the people injured in the second explosion were not immediately clear.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said Wednesday it is sending a team to investigate the explosions, which happened at two residences in the same neighborhood. The team is expected to arrive later Wednesday.
The NTSB said the explosions involved homes fueled by natural gas. No further details about the cause were immediately released.
