13 injured after semi-truck crashes into bus in Southern California
At least 13 people were injured when a semi-truck crashed into a city bus and two other vehicles in Santa Clarita, California, according to sheriff’s officials. One bus passenger was critically injured.
The crash happened at about 9:20 a.m. Wednesday in the Santa Clarita Valley, north of Los Angeles. Captain Brandon Barclay with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said the semi-truck was traveling about 50 to 70 miles per hour before the crash.
Barclay said the truck driver was approaching a yellow light and tried to make a right turn onto Centre Pointe Parkway to avoid running a red light, but was unable to stop and collided with the bus and two other passenger vehicles.
Eight people were transported to hospitals, including one person who was sitting in the back of the bus and had to be extricated with the jaws of life, according to KTLA. That person remains in critical condition. Five others declined medical treatment.
“As of right now, preliminarily, it does not appear that the driver of the semi-truck was under the influence,” Barclay said.
No fatalities were reported. Officials did not immediately release the identities of those involved.
