1 killed, 4 injured in shooting at restaurant in Austin, Texas
One person was killed and four others were injured when an altercation inside an Austin-area restaurant escalated into a shooting, according to police.
The shooting happened at about 1:31 a.m. on Wednesday at Down South CaJJun Eats Restaurant, located at 15424 FM 1825 in the Pflugerville area, north of Austin. The restaurant had hosted a Cinco de Mayo event that ended at 2 a.m., according to KXAN.
Austin police officers arrived and found multiple people with gunshot wounds. One of them, identified as Mykal Jones, was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:13 a.m.
Four other people who were shot were treated at various hospitals and were listed in stable condition, according to police.
Police said preliminary information shows there was an altercation inside the restaurant before shots were fired. People then fled the building, and shots were also fired outside.
The suspects fled the scene but were later found near the 1500 block of Howard Lane, according to KXAN. Police took them into custody.
A cellphone video taken by someone inside the restaurant has been made public as part of the investigation. Officials are asking anyone who was at the restaurant or has photos, videos or other evidence to contact investigators.
Police did not immediately release additional details about the altercation or say how many suspects were detained.
