A Wisconsin teen accused of killing both his parents is now facing larger allegations of planning to kill President Donald Trump and overthrow the government.
Who is the suspect?
Authorities in Waukesha County, Wisconsin, charged 17-year-old Nikita Casap with first-degree murder, theft and other crimes in March. Authorities accused him of shooting his mother and stepfather in February and living with the corpses for weeks before fleeing the state. Police eventually pulled Casap over in his parents’ car in Kansas with $14,000 in cash, passports and the family dog.
On Friday, April 11, FBI officials unsealed Casap’s arrest warrant, alleging he had wider plans after shooting his parents. Federal authorities alleged that the killing of both of his parents was an effort to obtain money so he could assassinate President Trump.
“The killing of his parents appeared to be an effort to obtain the financial means and autonomy necessary to carrying out his plan,” the search warrant states.
The FBI said Casap detailed his intentions in a three-page manifesto praising Adolf Hitler. They also said Casap had been in contact with others and at least one of them was from Russia. Prosecutors alleged Casap planned to kill Trump and then flee to Ukraine and live there.
Investigators said Casap was messaging someone about how to use a commercial drone as an attack drone. Casap had also allegedly paid in part for a drone and explosives.
Who alerted the authorities?
Authorities began the investigation after finding the decomposing bodies of both parents during a welfare check. Authorities believed the bodies had been decomposing for at least two weeks and were so badly decomposed that investigators had to identify them by dental records.
Prosecutors in Wisconsin charged Casap with nine felony charges, including two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of hiding a corpse. Federal investigators are pursuing three other charges: presidential assassination, conspiracy and use of weapons of mass destruction.
Casap will be back in court for an arraignment on May 7. Authorities are holding him at the Waukesha County Jail on a $1 million bond.
