White House adds Clinton scandal, Hunter Biden reference to events timeline
The White House “Major Events Timeline” – a chronological list of milestones on the official website’s “About page” – now includes some controversial new additions. On Thursday, the Trump administration updated the timeline to feature references to President Bill Clinton’s affair with Monica Lewinsky and Hunter Biden’s past drug use.
Social media users noticed the changes and started posting online, some criticizing the move and some praising it.
New additions spark controversy
Traditionally, the timeline includes standard entries like the rebuilding of the White House, the construction of the West Wing in 1902, and the addition of the Oval Office in 1909.
Now, however, after a 1970 entry for the construction of the Briefing Room, a new post appears. It reads, “Bill Clinton Scandal (1998).”
The caption reads: “President Bill Clinton’s affair with intern Monica Lewinsky was exposed, leading to White House perjury investigations. The Oval Office trysts fueled impeachment for obstruction.”
Another new entry, titled “Cocaine Discovered,” follows the 2020 addition marking the White House tennis pavilion.
“During Biden’s administration, a U.S. Secret Service agent discovered a small, zippered plastic bag containing cocaine in the West Wing entrance lobby. Speculation has pointed to Hunter Biden, an admitted drug user. Additional evidence includes a laptop, seized in 2019, which contains photos of frequent drug use alongside emails about foreign business dealings (Ukraine, China) involving his father, Joe, while he was Vice President.”
Other new entries
Additional entries added this week include “Trans Day of Visibility,” accompanied by a photo of a topless transgender influencer on the White House lawn. Plus, a “Muslim Brotherhood Visit (2012),” referencing an Obama-era meeting.
East Wing demolition
The administration also expanded the timeline with entries documenting President Donald Trump’s current reconstruction projects. These include the East Wing demolition, which the White House says will make way for a new 90,0000-square-foot ballroom.
That demolition has drawn sharp criticism from Democrats, who accuse the administration of lacking transparency. In a letter to Trump, three lawmakers expressed concern over the destruction of a historic building and “the ethical integrity of the administration it houses.”
The White House has not commented on whether it will add more entries to the timeline.
