Video: Pennsylvania crash covers highway in hot dogs, clogs major artery
A tractor-trailer crash in Pennsylvania became commuters’ wurst nightmare when the truck spilled hot dogs all over the road. The incident happened around 9 a.m. on Tuesday, July 29, on I-83 in Shrewsbury, just north of the Maryland border.
Officials told the Associated Press the truck had an unspecified mechanical problem during morning rush hour. That’s when the truck scraped the concrete divider, ripping the trailer open.
That glitch on the glizzy truck ended with a highway full of hot dogs.
First responders were left with a job they sure didn’t relish, cleaning up more than 1,000 lbs. of dogs.
“I can tell you personally, hot dogs are very slippery,” Brad Dauberman, Shrewsbury Fire Company Chief said. “I did not know that.”
Spilled dogs snarl traffic
The incident also led to a backup on the highway as drivers tried to ketchup with everything going on around them.
“Look at all the wieners,” Patrick Adams, who recorded video footage of the incident, said while driving. “If you want a pack of hot dogs guys, come to South 83. Got a bunch of ‘em just for free.”
Other drivers were frustrated with the street meat delay.
“We all came to a dead stop and I was wondering what was going on,” Jake Sitcosky of Shrewsbury told Fox43. “Then I saw some emergency vehicles… and hot dogs all over the road.”
Four people were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The road has since been cleared, and all lanes are back open.
Fox43 reported the hot dogs were all thrown away.
