Two PA troopers shot in ambush, airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries
Two Pennsylvania state troopers shot in an ambush are in the hospital and being treated for serious injuries, according to authorities. The shooting happened just after 11 a.m. local time Thursday, Aug. 7, in Susquehanna County, and the suspected gunman is dead.
Governor visits troopers in hospital
Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro said he visited the troopers in the hospital.
“I just left Trooper Joe Perechinsky and Trooper Billy Jenkins who are in stable condition. They represent the absolute best of the Pennsylvania State Police. This morning, they went towards danger to keep our neighbors safe — and they saved lives by doing so. We owe them an immense debt of gratitude,” Shapiro posted to his X account.
Police describe attack and response
Pennsylvania State Police said the two troopers were responding to a call, and when they arrived, a male gunman opened fire on them, wounding them. Both troopers sustained serious injuries and were airlifted to a hospital.
Several law enforcement agencies responded to the shooting and secured the scene. They found the suspect armed with a rifle. Authorities said he would not comply with their demands, “and was ultimately shot and killed during the incident.”
Investigation ongoing
Police have yet to identify the shooter. Authorities state that the investigation is ongoing and that additional details will be provided as they become available. Law enforcement also confirmed that there is no longer a threat to the community.
