Trump rebukes Israel, Iran on ceasefire: ‘Don’t know what the f— they’re doing’
President Donald Trump sharply criticized Israel, hours after he announced the U.S. ally had agreed to a ceasefire with Iran. Trump also said both countries had already violated the agreement.
Trump’s expletive-laced rebuke came moments before he departed Washington for a NATO summit at The Hague. Earlier, Israeli officials said Iran had fired missiles into northern Israel, and Israel sent warplanes to bomb Tehran.
“We have two countries that have been fighting so long and so hard that they don’t know what the f— they’re doing,” Trump told reporters on the White House lawn.
Israel had agreed to honor a ceasefire 12 hours after Iran ended hostilities. But Defense Minister Israel Katz ordered intense strikes early Tuesday, June 24.
“So I’m not happy with them,” Trump said of Israel. “I’m not happy with Iran, either. But I’m really unhappy of Israel’s going out this morning because of one rocket that didn’t land, that was shot, perhaps by mistake, that didn’t land. I’m not happy about that.”
Trump spoke to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu before leaving for The Hague, The New York Times reported, citing a White House official. The official said Trump was “firm and direct” about his expectations that Netanyahu would honor the ceasefire.
