President Donald Trump wasted no time sparking new controversies once he returned to office, issuing broad pardons to convicted Jan. 6 criminals immediately after his inauguration. Since then, he’s sought to unilaterally overturn constitutional laws and seize new executive powers. He’s also purged the federal government of key programs and personnel, and isolated the United States from its allies and partners on the international stage.
A range of lawsuits have already been filed against the new administration over these and other controversial actions. And while some Republicans have dissented against Trump on some issues – the Jan. 6 pardons, for instance – they have broadly defended him on others, claiming that he has a mandate to enact at least some of these changes.
Watch the above video as Straight Arrow News contributor Ruben Navarrette reviews a list of what he says are President Trump’s gravest errors in the first few weeks of his second term, and concludes that — in the wake of Republican inaction — Trump is making a huge American mess that Democrats will eventually have to clean up.
The following is an excerpt from the above video:
After just a few weeks in office, Trump has done some things right, but they’re drowned out by the many things he’s done wrong so far.
The Trump errors include issuing a mass pardon of more than 1,500 January 6 rioters, including those who beat and threatened to kill police officers, firing and investigating January 6 prosecutors, attacking birthright citizenship, launching an immigration crackdown that omits punishing employers, blaming DEI (Diversity Equity and Inclusion) without evidence for a mid-air collision over Washington, alienating our good friends and neighbors (Canada and Mexico) by threatening to impose a 25% tariff on imports, sending undocumented immigrants to Guantanamo Bay to be imprisoned alongside terrorists, allowing – in some cases, even requiring – local and state police to enforce federal immigration law, suggesting that the U.S. should and could control Gaza [and] relocate the Palestinians and turn the region into the Riviera of the Middle East, and finally, and this is a biggie, threatening our very constitutional system of checks and balances by attacking the federal judiciary after judges struck down several Trump initiatives as unlawful and unconstitutional.
Trump has generated all that sewage, and he hasn’t even been in office a month. Say, maybe the Center can wait. There’s a lot of cleanup to do, a lot of punches to be thrown from the Left.
