Trump ally Laura Loomer credentialed to cover Pentagon: Report

Laura Loomer, a far-right activist and former candidate for Congress in Florida, is reportedly now credentialed to cover the Department of Defense, according to The Washington Post, which cites a person familiar with the matter. Loomer will be part of a new group of media that has agreed to the Pentagon’s new press coverage policy.

Loomer is a close ally of President Donald Trump, often meeting with him at the White House since his return to office. She has reportedly agitated some within the president’s administration due to her reported influence on the president’s decisions and social media criticism of some defense and national security officials, whom she accused of being disloyal to Trump. Some of her targets have been ousted after her online admonishments.

Concerns over Loomer’s presence at Pentagon

There are reportedly concerns that Loomer’s presence at the Pentagon could frustrate Pentagon officials, some of whom are still working to rein in the fallout from social media comments she made criticizing Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s announcement that the U.S. would host a Qatari air force training facility in Idaho.

She harshly criticized the decision and said that, as a result, she would not be voting in next year’s midterm elections. In a post on X, which had more than 2 million views, she accused Republicans of giving “terror financing Muslims from Qatar a MILITARY BASE on US soil so they can murder Americans.”

Loomer has previously described herself as a “proud Islamophobe” and was accused of racism by Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia over a post about former Vice President Kamala Harris.

Loomer has frustrated some within Trump administration

Gen. Timothy Haugh was fired as director of the National Security Agency and head of U.S. Cyber Command earlier this year, following Loomer’s reported push that he be dismissed during an Oval Office meeting.

She later attributed her advice to his termination, posting on X, “NSA Director Tim Haugh and his deputy Wendy Noble have been disloyal to President Trump. That is why they have been fired.”

Loomer also credited her reporting as leading to the president’s ousting of former national security adviser Michael Waltz and a number of his staffers in April.

Many outlets refuse to sign Pentagon’s new policy

Loomer’s inclusion as part of the Pentagon’s new press corps comes as the department has revamped its rules for media coverage. A large number of journalists covering the Pentagon walked out of the defense headquarters last month after the Pentagon revealed its new media policy that bars news outlets from seeking any details not made available by the government.

Many news outlets, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, CNN and Fox News, declined to accept the terms of the agreement, arguing that it threatens freedom of the press.

New press corps largely features right-wing sources

The Pentagon announced the new press corps in October, which largely features far-right media outlets, including The Gateway Pundit, The Post Millennial and LindellTV, which was founded by MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell, along with independent journalists and online influencers. Members of the new group have either signed or indicated they will sign the new policy agreement.
