Suspect caught after crashing car into FBI field office gate: Officials
Law enforcement said they arrested the man who they say intentionally crashed his car into the gate of the Pittsburgh FBI field office. The agency said it is treating the incident, which occurred Wednesday morning, as an “act of terror.”
What happened?
According to a news release, the suspect has been identified as Donald Henson of Penn Hills, Pennsylvania. He allegedly rammed his vehicle into an entrance gate at 2:40 a.m. He then grabbed an American flag from his back seat and tossed it over the gate before fleeing the scene.
‘An act of terror’
“We look at this as an act of terror against the FBI. This was a targeted attack on this building,” FBI Special Agent in Charge Christopher Giordano said. “Thankfully no one was hurt, but we are going to exhaust every ability we have under the federal law to find, apprehend and prosecute this subject to the fullest extent.”
A history of mental health issues
The FBI says that Henson is a veteran with a history of mental health issues and is believed to be dangerous. However, they say it does not appear he was armed at the scene of the crime.
FBI officials said that Henson showed up at the field office a few weeks ago to file a complaint. However, they said it “didn’t make a whole lot of sense.” The agency reportedly told him that his complaint did not result in any charges.
Authorities have identified Henson’s vehicle as a white sedan with “derogatory” writing on it. However, FBI agents said the language on the car does not seem to be targeting any particular group of people.
Public urged to report sightings to authorities
The agency is urging anyone with information on Henson’s whereabouts to contact authorities on a tip line or dial 911.
FBI officials did not disclose the extent of the damage caused by the car-ramming incident.
While the motivations for the alleged car-ramming attack remain unclear, it comes amid growing public concerns of politically motivated violence in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s assassination.
