The office of Rockstar North, the company best known for developing Grand Theft Auto (GTA) and its upcoming sequel, has been hit by a small explosion and fire, according to officials in Scotland.

The incident happened at around 5 a.m. on Monday when fire crews were called for an incident at Barclay House, the building housing Rockstar North on Holyrood Road in Edinburgh.

A large number of resources responded to the scene, including 7 vehicles from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS).

“Operations Control mobilised three fire appliances and specialist resources to the scene, where firefighters worked to secure structural damage at a commercial building,” a fire service spokesperson said.

There were no reports of casualties and crews left the scene at 9:21 a.m.

Rockstar Games confirmed to BNO News that the incident involved a “malfunction” in one of the heating boilers at Rockstar North’s headquarters. Local media, including The Herald newspaper, described it as an explosion which led to a small fire.

“Many thanks to those that reached out with concern, and also to the police and fire crews who were on scene quickly to assess the situation,” a Rockstar Games spokesman told BNO News.

The spokesman indicated that its game development was not affected by Monday’s explosion, saying: “Please know that everyone is well and our studio remains open and operational.”
