President debuts TrumpRx site aimed at lowering drug prices for Americans
President Donald Trump has officially unveiled his long-awaited direct-to-consumer TrumpRx website. He’s touting it as “one of the most transformative health care initiatives of all time.”
The Trump administration said the site includes discounted prices from more than a dozen drugmakers, including Pfizer and Novo Nordisk.
How TrumpRx works
Last year, Trump struck deals with major drugmakers to list at least some of their medications on the site at steeply discounted prices.
For example, a four-week supply of Wegovy Pen costs $199 for the first two months, then increases to $349, which is well below the drug’s approximate $1,349 list price.
“Starting tonight, dozens of the most commonly used prescription drugs will be available at dramatic discounts for all consumers throughout a new website is called TrumpRx.gov,” Trump said at the White House event announcing the website on Thursday.
When it comes to getting the medications, TrumpRx will not deliver it directly. Instead, users will have to print out a coupon and fill the prescription at a participating pharmacy.
The website’s FAQ section says the discounted prices are “only available for cash-paying patients.”

Approximately 60% of American adults take at least one prescription medication, and 25% take four or more.

Who benefits from TrumpRx
Since most people pay for prescriptions through insurance, TrumpRx isn’t necessarily the better choice for them.
“If you have insurance, check your co-pay first — it may be even lower,” the site reads.
The steeply discounted prices are most likely to benefit uninsured Americans, people with high deductibles and those whose medications aren’t covered by their insurance, like certain weight loss or IVF drugs.
While Medicare will start covering weight loss drugs in the coming months, insurance provided by many employers doesn’t, so those looking to get them may benefit from going through TrumpRx.
‘Most favored nation’
In recent months, the Trump administration has negotiated agreements with more than a dozen drugmakers to not only participate in TrumpRx but also discount the prices of certain drugs for Medicaid patients. It stems from the president’s “most favored nation” policy, which pushes drugmakers to sell their medicines in the U.S. at their lowest global rate.
“The United States is just 1% of the world’s population and consumes only 13% of all prescription drugs yet pharmaceutical companies make 75% of their profits from American customers,” Trump said in November.
According to the Department of Health and Human Services, Americans pay almost three times more for prescription medications than other developed countries, even though more than half of those drugs were first developed in the U.S.
Trump signed an executive order in October, imposing 100% tariffs on branded or patented drugs imported into the U.S. In a post on Truth Social, he said companies could avoid the tariffs by building manufacturing plants in America.
In November, the Trump administration announced price reductions for 15 prescription drugs covered by Medicare; however, they don’t take effect until 2027.
