Overnight SWAT raids lead to 3 detained in Nancy Guthrie disappearance
Authorities investigating the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie carried out overnight SWAT operations that resulted in multiple arrests and the towing of a vehicle, marking a significant escalation in a multi-agency search that has drawn national attention.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said tactical teams executed operations at several locations tied to Guthrie’s case. Officials did not immediately release the identities of those detained or specify potential charges, describing the arrests as part of an ongoing investigation.
Fox News reported at least three people were detained at a home two miles from Guthrie’s Arizona residence. Another stop in a fast food restaurant parking lot resulted in an FBI arrest. Authorities were seen removing items from the Range Rover and taking pictures. The driver was taken into custody.
Law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, have intensified efforts in recent days as investigators analyze surveillance footage, forensic evidence and thousands of public tips.
Investigators say video captured a masked individual near Guthrie’s home around the time she disappeared. The person appeared to be wearing gloves and carrying a dark backpack — items authorities now believe could be key to identifying a suspect.
Officials confirmed that gloves recovered during searches are undergoing forensic testing. Authorities are examining the items for DNA and other trace evidence. Investigators also said unknown DNA has been collected during the investigation but have not disclosed where it was found or whether it matches any individual.
The sheriff’s department described the suspect seen in surveillance footage as a man of average build, approximately 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, who was reportedly seen tampering with a doorbell camera near the residence.
Search activity has expanded across the Tucson area in recent days, with authorities executing court-authorized searches and requesting surveillance footage from residents and businesses nearby.
