The incident took place at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday on Friar Gate in Derby city center, according to Derbyshire authorities. Derby is in central England, about 35 miles northeast of Birmingham. Police said the vehicle involved was a black Suzuki Swift.

“It was utterly horrific. People were laying on the pavement covered in blood and on the road,” an eyewitness told local outlet DerbyshireLive.
Police said officers stopped a vehicle believed to have been involved shortly after the crash. The driver, a man in his 30s, was arrested and remains in custody.
The incident is under investigation, and police appealed for anyone who saw a black Suzuki Swift being driven in Derby around the time of the incident to come forward.
