The incident followed reports of a suicidal man traveling from Indiana to Washington, D.C.

Authorities have not released the identity of the man shot by U.S. Secret Service agents near the White House early Sunday morning, March 9.
The agency said in a statement that they were alerted by Washington D.C. police about a suicidal man traveling from Indiana to the nation’s capital. Authorities located the man’s car near the White House just after midnight.
“As officers approached, the individual brandished a firearm and an armed confrontation ensued, during which shots were fired by our personnel,” the statement said.
No one else was injured. President Donald Trump was in Florida at the time of the shooting.
The man was hospitalized, though the Secret Service did not disclose his condition.
The Metropolitan Police Department’s Internal Affairs Division is investigating the incident. The division’s Force Investigations Team looks into all law enforcement officer-involved shootings in the District of Columbia.
