One person was killed and 10 others were injured when gunmen opened fire on a group gathered at a park in the central Mexico, according to local reports citing authorities. Most of the victims were teenagers and children.

The shooting occurred Tuesday night in San Francisco del Rincón, a city in Guanajuato state, local outlet AM reported. The victims were socializing at the park when armed men opened fire, leaving a 36-year-old man dead at the scene.

Authorities reported that 10 people were injured, including seven men and three women. The victims included one young adult, three teenagers and five children between the ages of 5 and 12.

A 24-year-old man and a 5-year-old boy were listed in serious condition, according to authorities. Three other victims who suffered gunshot wounds were reported stable, including a 16-year-old boy, a 15-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl.

AM reported that three additional minors were injured by shrapnel and were listed in stable condition, while another 12-year-old child was hurt after falling during the attack.

Guanajuato’s state health department said four male patients have been discharged from the hospital and four others remain hospitalized in stable condition. Those discharged included a 9-year-old boy and an 8-year-old boy.

Authorities have not announced any arrests.

Guanajuato has been one of Mexico’s most violent states in recent years, fueled by clashes between the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) and the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel. Both groups have been designated as terrorist organizations by the Trump administration.

The conflict has led to hundreds of killings and disappearances, repeated mass shootings and the discovery of clandestine graves across the state.

In late January, at least 11 people were killed and 12 others were injured when gunmen opened fire on a group gathered at a soccer field in Salamanca, also in Guanajuato.
