Georgia man sentenced to 3 years for threatening to kill President Trump
A Georgia man has been sentenced to more than three years in federal prison for threatening to kill President Trump, according to prosecutors.
Jauan Rashun Porter, 30, of Rome, Georgia, was sentenced Monday to three years and five months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, according to the the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia.
Porter pleaded guilty on Oct. 7, 2025, to one count of transmitting interstate threats and has been detained since Aug. 8, 2025.
According to prosecutors, the threats were made on July 26, 2025, during a TikTok livestream about President Trump captioned “Alligator Alcatraz.” Porter commented, “So there’s only one way to make America great and that is putting a bullet in between Trump’s eyes.”
Over the next several minutes, Porter made additional statements during the livestream, including: “I’m gonna kill Donald Trump. I’m gonna put a 7.62 bullet inside his forehead.” He also said, “I’m gonna watch him bleed out and I’m gonna watch him die,” and claimed he would attend an upcoming rally and shoot the president.
Porter further described loading a rifle and firing from an abandoned building.
When asked about federal agents coming to his door, prosecutors said Porter responded, “I’m gonna kill them too . . . and then kill myself[.]”
During the investigation, U.S. Secret Service agents, Floyd County police officers, and Georgia probation officers searched Porter’s apartment and found two pipes, pistol ammunition, and Tannerite, an explosive material. Authorities said no firearm was recovered.
Porter has multiple prior felony convictions in Floyd County, including convictions for terroristic threats and acts in 2018 and 2019, influencing a witness in 2019, and an unlawful act of violence in a penal institution in 2023.
Prosecutors said he was on probation for a 2023 conviction for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and battery domestic violence at the time of the threats.
“Threatening to kill the President of the United States is an abhorrent crime that cannot be tolerated,” U.S. Attorney Theodore S. Hertzberg said in a statement. “Because the Constitution affords no protection to political violence, we will continue to work closely with our federal partners to identify and prosecute criminals who make such threats.”
