Erika Kirk describes ‘unbelievable nightmare’ of her husband’s killing

Erika Kirk, the widow of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, revealed in a newly televised interview that she’s never viewed the graphic video of her husband’s killing. Speaking on Fox News’ “Jesse Watters Primetime,” she also opened up about seeing her husband’s body.

“I never saw the video, I never will see it,” Kirk said. “I never want to see it, there are certain things you see in your life that you can never unsee. There are certain things you see in your life that mark your soul forever. I don’t want my husband’s public assassination to be something I ever see. I don’t want my kids to ever see that.”

The last time she saw Charlie alive

Erika Kirk recalled the last time she saw Charlie alive, shortly before his speaking engagement in Utah.

“He came in and he grabbed that [wedding ring and necklace] and then he left,” Erika Kirk told Watters. “I didn’t even get to give him a kiss goodbye.”

Kirk said she stayed in Arizona that day to be with her mother, who had a medical issue.

“Charlie was like, ‘Home needs you,’” she said. “‘Home needs you, be home. Come with me on Thursday to the next event we have.’”

When she learned Charlie was shot

At the doctor’s office with her mom, she saw footage of Charlie throwing Make America Great Again hats to the crowd at Utah Valley University.

Then she got a call.

“Mike McCoy called me,” Kirk said, referring to the chief of staff at Turning Point USA, the organization her husband founded. “I’ll never forget, him just being like, ‘Charlie’s been shot. He’s been shot, get the kids. Get security, get the kids, get the kids, he’s been shot.’ I sprinted out of [her mother’s] treatment center and just collapsed in the middle of the parking lot.”

Charlie Kirk was soon pronounced dead from a gunshot wound to the neck. Erika Kirk described learning of the death as an “unbelievable nightmare.”

“The way the bullet hit him, he died instantaneously,” Kirk told Watters. “He died on the scene. But I’m glad he didn’t suffer. No one deserves to suffer, but a handful of people. He literally blinked and probably thought he was raptured, and looked around and was like, ‘Where’s everybody else?’ He blinked, and he was with the Lord.”

Discussed safety precautions with Charlie prior to death

Kirk said she had talked with her husband about adding safety measures, including wearing a bulletproof vest.

She said he told her he wasn’t afraid. And it “wouldn’t have mattered anyways if he wore a vest,” she said because of the nature of his gunshot wound.

Moments after Charlie’s passing

When she arrived in Utah, Kirk said, she asked a police officer and a doctor to see her husband’s body, telling them she didn’t get to give him a kiss that morning. She told Watters that her husband “looked so alive” after he passed away, describing a smirk still on his face.

“That smirk to me is that look of, ‘You thought you could stop what I’ve built,’” she said. “‘This vision, this movement, this revival, you thought you could do that by murdering me. You got my body. You didn’t get my soul.’”
