Forty years later, Gen X finally got the reunion it has been waiting for: the cast of “The Breakfast Club.”

Who attended the reunion?

Molly Ringwald, Ally Sheedy, Judd Nelson, Anthony Michael Hall and Emilio Estevez reunited April 12 during a panel at a pop culture convention in Chicago. The actors walked onstage together, set to the “Colonel Bogey March,” whistling and re-enacting the scene from the film.

This marked the first time all the actors had come together to discuss the film.

“I feel really, very emotional and moved to have us all together. This is the first time that Emilio has joined us. We don’t have to use the cardboard cutout anymore because he’s here,” Ringwald joked.

Today reports, when asked why it took Estevez so long to attend a reunion event, he told moderator Josh Horowitz, “I skipped all of my high school reunions, so this just was something that finally I felt I needed to do just for myself.”

What did the cast talk about during the reunion?

During the panel, the actors reminisced about their time shooting the film and shared memories of John Hughes, the writer and director of the movie.

Ringwald noted that the cast wasn’t the original plan, saying, “From my understanding, John Cusack was gonna play Bender and Joan Cusack was going to play Allison. I don’t know who was gonna play the other parts. And then after ‘Sixteen Candles,’ he gave me the script.”

Sheedy, who played Allison Reynolds, the “basket case” in the movie, reflected on how close the cast became during filming.

“I was really happy when we were making this movie, we all really … I don’t know if you can tell but we all really do love each other. It was a dream,” Sheedy said. “A joyful experience.”

When asked about the future of their characters, the actors shared their perspectives.

“I think Bender is clearly the principal of the school,” Nelson said, receiving laughter from the crowd when referencing his rebellious character, John Bender.

“I think Allison would’ve ended up being a writer, maybe a professor, something intellectual,” Sheedy added.

“I think that Claire probably got married a few times,” Ringwald said to the crowd. “And maybe decided she liked women. Her kids are grown up, she’s like, ‘Okay I’ll try that.’ It didn’t work out so well with the guys.”

Despite fans’ hopes for a sequel, the group said another film was not in the foreseeable future out of respect for the late Hughes.
