Disney cast member injured after prop malfunction in Florida
A Disney cast member was injured after a prop malfunction occurred during a live stunt show at a theme park in Florida, according to the company.
The incident happened Tuesday during the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular! at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando, according to Disney and local media. A large boulder prop dislodged from its track during the performance, and a cast member was injured while attempting to stop it before it reached the audience.
Video of the incident shows the prop boulder falling from part of the set where it is designed to roll as part of the show, then moving toward the seating area. A cast member attempted to slow the boulder, which appeared nearly twice his height, and was knocked back by the prop.
Another cast member then intervened, helping redirect the boulder and assisting the injured performer.
In a statement to WFTV, Disney said, “We’re focused on supporting our cast member, who is recovering. Safety is at the heart of what we do, and that element of the show will be modified as our safety team completes a review of what happened.”
Disney did not release details about the cast member’s condition or the extent of the injuries. The company said it is reviewing the incident and adjusting the affected portion of the show while the review is ongoing.
The Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular! is a long-running attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios that features live-action stunt demonstrations inspired by the film franchise and is performed multiple times daily in an outdoor theater.
