Media Miss by the left: Democrats block military spending bill amid ongoing government shutdown

Democrats on Thursday blocked a GOP-backed defense spending bill aimed at funding military personnel during the government shutdown. The vote of 50-44 fell well under the 60 votes required to move forward.

Three Democrats voted in favor of the bill. The rest said they would not back the standalone defense measure without more comprehensive guarantees on long-term government funding.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune called the move “deeply disappointing.”

Media Miss by the right: Crowd of 700 stays silent amid investigation of deadly mass shooting in South Carolina

Roughly 700 people were present when a mass shooting took place at a South Carolina bar over last weekend, leaving four dead and 16 injured. However, authorities say no one has come forward as a witness.

The shooting happened after a dispute between a small group escalated into a melee and random gunshots at Willie’s Bar and Grill on St. Helena Island, according to authorities.

Beaufort County Sheriff P.J. Tanner said that while his investigators collected evidence at the scene, including DNA samples, firearms and video footage, the lack of witness cooperation is hampering the investigation. Tanner said he believes many who were present may be scared to speak up for fear of retaliation.
