Cable car incident in San Francisco injures 15
At least 15 people were injured after a cable car came to an abrupt stop in San Francisco, according to the San Francisco Fire Department. Authorities said the injuries ranged from minor to moderate.
The incident occurred on Monday at 1351 California Street, between Leavenworth Street and Hyde Street, the San Francisco Fire Department said. Fire officials said the scene was later secured and that the department has cleared the area.
According to the fire department, 15 patients were evaluated at the scene. Two people were transported immediately due to their injuries, while 11 others were transported to hospitals for what officials described as minor aches and pains. Two additional individuals declined transport to a hospital.
Fire officials did not release full details about how the individuals were injured or what caused the cable car to come to an abrupt stop. KGO reported that officials said an object may have been thrown at the vehicle.
The incident took place in San Francisco’s Nob Hill neighborhood, a steep, densely populated area near downtown that is served by the city’s historic cable car system, which is used by both residents and tourists.
The San Francisco Fire Department said that an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
