Brandy speaks out after abruptly leaving stage during Chicago concert
The R&B singer Brandy is speaking out after abruptly leaving the stage during a concert in Chicago Saturday night, leaving fellow performer Monica to finish the show alone. The singer walked backstage while continuing to sing but failed to return, according to video clips posted online from The Boy Is Mine tour stop.
Fans speculate on what happened
Fan videos quickly circulated on TikTok and X showing Brandy performing as she appeared to head toward the wings.
Many fans suspected a sound issue. TMZ reported Brandy could be heard saying, “Give me one second y’all, I gotta get my…” though her voice was not audible in the widely shared clip. Others noticed she appeared to be breathing heavily earlier in the performance.
Singer says she experienced dehydration
On Sunday, Brandy addressed the incident in a statement on social media.
“After weeks of nonstop rehearsals, last night I experienced dehydration and feelings of wanting to faint,” she wrote. “Everyone involved agreed that prioritizing my well-being was of the utmost importance.”
Brandy added that she visited a doctor near the arena and took the proper precautions for her health.
The tour marks major reunion with Monica
The incident comes shortly after Brandy and Monica launched The Boy Is Mine tour, which was announced to overwhelming excitement from fans.
The reunion is significant given the singers’ well-documented tension following their 1998 mega-duet “The Boy Is Mine.” At the time, their success was overshadowed by media speculation about an alleged feud that lingered for years.
Despite the health scare, Brandy said that she looks forward to returning to the stage with Monica. She rejoined the tour Sunday night for their performance in Indianapolis.
The pair’s next show is scheduled for Friday in Nashville.
