Jane Austen fans parade in Bath to celebrate author’s 250th birthday

Thousands of Jane Austen fans gathered in Bath, England this week to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the author’s birth. The celebration includes a costumed parade and a full slate of events.
Around 2,000 attendees dressed in Regency-era attire, taking part in the promenade through the historic city where Austen once lived. The Jane Austen Festival has grown steadily over the years, drawing visitors from around the world to honor the beloved novelist.
“It’s a huge moment to put Bath on the map globally,” said organizer Kathryn Davis. “The festival gives us a chance to celebrate an incredible author and her legacy.”
Promenading was a popular pastime in Austen’s day, and the tradition is brought to life each year at the festival.
Austen moved to Bath in 1801, and the city is frequently featured in her writing. The festival runs through next week.
