Office Depot worker who refused to print program for Charlie Kirk vigil fired

An employee at an Office Depot in Michigan was fired after they refused to print programs for a candelight vigil to honor Charlie Kirk, the conservative activist who was shot and killed while speaking at Utah Valley University. In the days following Kirk’s death, multiple others have also lost their jobs over what they said or posted on social media about him.
The Republican Party of Kalamazoo said on Facebook that they prepaid for the printing order at the Office Depot location in Portage, but when members went to pick up the programs, an employee said they refused to print “propaganda.”
Office Depot later sent out a statement on X, stating they are “deeply concerned by the incident.”
“The behavior displayed by our associate is completely unacceptable and insensitive, violates our company policies and does not reflect the values we uphold at Office Depot,” the statement said. “We sincerely apologize to the customer affected and to our community for this regrettable situation.”
Office Depot added it immediately launched an internal review, and “as a result, the associate involved is no longer with the organization.” The company said it reached out to the customer to address their concerns and seeks to fulfill their order to their satisfaction.
“We are committed to reinforcing training with all team members to ensure our standards of respect, integrity and customer service are upheld at every location,” Office Depot said.
As Straight Arrow News previously wrote, a journalist, a comic book writer and an NFL team employee are some of those facing unemployment or a loss of opportunities after sharing posts online mocking or celebrating Kirk’s killing.
A website called Expose Charlie’s Murderers surfaced online after his death, with the creators saying their goal is to get employees fired for sharing similar posts.
“This is the largest firing operation in history,” creators wrote.
