Media Miss by the left: Rep. Fine proposes law to hold judges accountable to victims’ families
Rep. Randy Fine, R-Fla., has announced plans to introduce a bill empowering victims and their families to sue judges who release violent repeat offenders if those offenders later commit a crime against themselves or their loved ones.
The plan comes in the wake of the murder of Iryna Zarutska, a Ukrainian refugee who was stabbed and killed on a train in Charlotte, North Carolina, last month.
Her accused killer, Decarlos Brown Jr., has a record of at least 14 prior criminal cases, including assault and armed robbery. U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi said Brown is a “repeat violent offender with a history of violent crime.”

Media Miss by the right: Former officer convicted in beating death of Tyre Nichols to be released, granted new trial
Three former Memphis, Tennessee, police officers convicted on federal charges in the 2023 beating death of Tyre Nichols are getting a new trial.
Additionally, U.S. District Judge Sheryl H. Lipman has ruled one of the officers, Demetrius Haley, be released on bond as he awaits a new trial.
Haley was found guilty on two counts of deprivation of rights resulting in bodily injury and two counts of tampering with a witness, victim or informant. Fellow former officers Tadarrius Bean and Justin Smith were each found guilty of one federal count of tampering with a witness, victim or informant.
All three were acquitted on state charges in May.
Lipman said alleged comments made by the trial judge after the trial that the Memphis Police Department was “infiltrated” with “gang members” were biased and warrant new trials.
