Aryna Sabalenka wins second straight US Open

It hasn’t happened since 2014. Defending women’s champion Aryna Sabalenka pulled off the repeat by defeating Amanda Anisimova, 6-3, 7-6 (3). Serena Williams was the last woman to win back-to-back at Flushing Meadows.
Elite company
Sabalenka joins an elite group of nine women winning back-to-backs.
Along with Williams, Kim Clijsters, Venus Williams, Monica Seles, Steffi Graf, Martina Navratilova, Chris Evert, Billie Jean King and Margaret Court have all won two years in a row.
Navratilova and Graf won back-to-backs on two separate occasions.
Sweet revenge
The 27-year-old was eliminated by Anisimova at Wimbledon. She came in second at the Australian Open and the French Open.
“You are so incredible,” Anisimova told Sabalenka. “I’m in awe of what you’ve accomplished, and you keep on achieving so many incredible things.”
Sunday’s matchup
On Sunday, the men will clash at center court. No. 1 Jannik Sinner faces off with No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz. This will be the third time they play against each other for a Grand Slam final this year.
Alcaraz won the French Open. Sinner came back and won Wimbledon. Sinner is also the reigning champion at Flushing Meadows.
