11 injured in mass stabbing in Michigan, suspect arrested

Eleven people remain hospitalized Sunday morning, July 27, following a stabbing incident at a Walmart in Traverse City, Michigan. Police say a man stabbed multiple people at the store.

The incident happened just before 5 p.m. Saturday, July 26. At a press conference, authorities said the 42-year-old suspect is currently in police custody. Police say the man stabbed his victims with a folding knife.

Munson Healthcare posted on social media Sunday morning that seven of the victims are in fair condition and four are in serious condition. All 11 victims are currently being treated at Munson Medical Center. The victim’s ages were not released.

“Our dedicated team of physicians, surgeons, nurses, clinicians, and support staff remain focused on providing a healing environment for all those affected by this tragic incident,” hospital officials said. “Their unwavering commitment and compassion are a testament to the strength and resilience of our healthcare community. Additionally, we are working on providing additional emotional support for our employees in light of this incident.”

FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino said on X that FBI personnel are responding to provide any necessary support.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer also shared her support for those involved, writing, “Our thoughts are with the victims and the community reeling from this brutal act of violence. I am grateful to the first responders for their swift response to apprehend the suspect.”
