There’s renewed speculation that President Donald Trump may attempt to secure a third term after new merchandise reading “Trump 2028” went on sale in his online store. Trump has previously stated that he is seriously exploring ways to serve a third term, even though the Constitution prohibits it.
‘Trump 2028’ hats
An image of Eric Trump wearing a “Trump 2028” hat has been circulating on social media. The president’s son posted the image on his Instagram account, followed by a series of images of media inquiries he’s received since the picture was posted, asking if President Trump or another family member is planning a 2028 presidential run.

Eric Trump did not comment on whether he or anyone else in the Trump family, including the current president, intends to launch a bid for the next presidential election.
Isn’t it unconstitutional to seek a third term?
A new shirt featuring the “Trump 2028” slogan followed by the words “rewrite the rules” also went on sale on the president’s merchandise website.
That seems to refer to the fact that in order for President Trump to be elected for a third term, the Constitution would have to be amended.
Changing the Constitution to allow a third presidential term would require a two-thirds majority in both the House of Representatives and Senate. Theoretically, that is possible, since Republicans control both chambers. However, an amendment would then also need to be ratified by at least 38 states, which many experts say is highly unlikely.
No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once.”

Earlier this year, Rep. Andy Ogles, R-Tenn., who has voiced support for a third Trump term, proposed legislation to amend the Constitution. That proposal suggests changing the language in the 22nd Amendment to read, “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than three times, nor be elected to any additional term after being elected to two consecutive terms, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.”
Does President Trump plan to run again anyway?
Despite what the 22nd Amendment says, President Trump has floated the idea of seeking a third term, telling NBC News in March there are “methods” to do so, though he did not say what those methods may be.
While many Republicans have brushed it off as a tongue-in-cheek remark, Trump told NBC he’s “not joking” about wanting to seek another term.
A Reuters/Ipsos poll published this month shows 53% of Republican voters do not think President Trump should seek a third term.
