A woman was shot outside the Virginia Republican Party’s headquarters in Richmond after a dispute at a hair salon across the street, according to police. The woman is expected to recover.

The shooting happened at about 1:45 p.m. Thursday outside The Obenshain Center on East Grace Street, which houses the Republican Party of Virginia’s offices. Police said the incident was unrelated to the party.

Richmond Police Chief Rick Edwards said an employee and the owner of the salon had an ongoing dispute. The employee showed up in an aggressive manner, and the owner, who felt threatened, fired a gun.

A woman standing across the street outside the Republican Party offices was struck by the gunfire. People who were canvassing nearby brought her inside the building, where she received aid until emergency personnel arrived, according to WWBT. She was taken to a hospital.

The Republican Party of Virginia said all of its staff members are safe and that it had no indication the shooting was related to its operations.

Police identified Dorian Evans, 34, of Richmond, as an employee involved in the dispute and said he fled before officers arrived. He is wanted on charges of attempted murder and use of a firearm to commit a felony.

Police said they were also looking for the other employee involved in the dispute, who may have been shot, according to WWBT.
