Utah man indicted over alleged plot to bomb synagogue

A 22-year-old Utah man has been indicted on federal charges after allegedly threatening to bomb a synagogue on social media, with investigators later finding six homemade pipe bombs, two rifles and ammunition at his home.

Skyler AJ Rose, of Ogden, was indicted by a federal grand jury on Wednesday. The Justice Department said the charges include possessing an unregistered destructive device, making threats to kill or injure people and damage a building with explosives, and attempting to commit a hate crime.

According to court documents, Rose allegedly posted several threats on social media on Dec. 23, 2025, including a statement saying he wanted to blow up a synagogue. Investigators traced the posts to an internet address linked to the home where he lived and identified him as the account holder.

Officers searched the home and found six improvised explosive pipe bombs, an inert device, materials that could be used to build additional explosives, two rifles and ammunition, according to the Justice Department.

The explosives were considered potentially dangerous, and nearby homes were evacuated while bomb technicians dealt with the devices, according to court filings.

Investigators also found that Rose had searched online for a nearby synagogue in November 2025. Court documents described additional social media posts containing antisemitic threats and statements targeting Jewish people.

A search of Rose’s cellphone also allegedly uncovered hundreds of images and screenshots depicting child sexual abuse material, the Justice Department said. The material is part of the investigation, though the department’s announcement focused on the alleged threats and explosives.

The FBI’s Salt Lake City Field Office and the Ogden Police Department are investigating the case, with assistance from several local and federal agencies. Rose’s initial court appearance was scheduled for Friday in federal court in Salt Lake City.
