Florida student arrested for high school shooting threat
A 14-year-old student has been arrested for allegedly writing a school shooting threat on a bathroom wall at a high school near Jacksonville, Florida, according to officials. The student then reported the threat to school administrators.
The student approached administrators at Clay High School on October 5 about a message indicating that a shooting would take place during the first week of November. The information was passed to the school resource officer, who began investigating.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office said investigators worked with Clay County District Schools and determined that the student who reported the threat had also written it. Authorities have not released the student’s name or a possible motive.
The student was arrested on a charge of making written or electronic threats to kill, cause bodily injury, or conduct a mass shooting or an act of terrorism. The student was then taken to the Department of Juvenile Justice’s Duval County Detention Center.
The sheriff’s office said the student will also face disciplinary action under the school district’s Student Code of Conduct.
About two weeks earlier, a 14-year-old Clay High School student was arrested for allegedly threatening on Roblox to carry out a mass shooting at the school. In that case, the FBI’s Jacksonville office received a tip about the threat and shared the information with local authorities, who identified and arrested the student.
