Florida student arrested over school shooting threat on Roblox
A 14-year-old student has been arrested after threatening on Roblox to carry out a mass shooting at a Florida high school, according to officials. The arrest followed a tip received by the FBI.
Green Cove Springs police began investigating on Wednesday after receiving information about a threat against Clay High School, according to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office. The school is in Green Cove Springs, south of Jacksonville.
The FBI’s Jacksonville office received a Threat-to-Life tip about a Roblox user threatening a mass shooting at the school. Authorities identified the user as a 14-year-old Clay High School student who lives within the city limits.
Police arrested the student, who was transported to the Duval Regional Juvenile Detention Center. The sheriff’s office listed the offense as making written or electronic threats to kill, cause bodily injury or conduct a mass shooting or act of terrorism.
FBI Director Kash Patel said the information was shared with state and local law enforcement partners and “an arrest was made before any reported violence occurred.”
Authorities did not release the wording of the alleged threat or further details about how identified the account’s user. No information was provided about whether the student had access to weapons.
