British military jet crashes in Wales, both pilots eject
A British military jet crashed during training exercises in Wales, according to officials. Both pilots survived after ejecting before the crash.
The crash happened on Wednesday in the Pencarnisiog area of Anglesey, an island off the northwest coast of Wales in the United Kingdom, according to North Wales Police. The Royal Air Force (RAF) said the Hawk T2 aircraft was flying out of its RAF Valley air base.
Footage taken by a witness showed both pilots ejecting before the jet descended toward the ground near homes in a rural area. A large fireball erupted at the crash site, sending thick black smoke into the air.
Officials said both pilots were found shortly after the crash and are receiving medical treatment. Emergency services responded to the scene, and there were no reports of other injuries or damage beyond the aircraft.
“Following an incident involving an RAF Hawk T2 aircraft today, both pilots are receiving medical treatment. Their families are being supported,” the Royal Air Force said in a statement. “The RAF has decided to temporarily pause Hawk T1 and T2 operations, as a precautionary measure, whilst investigations are ongoing.”
The cause of the crash was not immediately known.
