Son of Israeli ambassador to U.S. critically injured in West Bank ramming attack
The son of Israel’s ambassador to the United States has been critically injured in a vehicle-ramming attack in the occupied West Bank, according to regional authorities. The driver was shot and killed at the scene.
Neria Leiter, a reserve soldier and son of Ambassador Yechiel Leiter, was manning a checkpoint near the Israeli settlement of Beit Horon when the attack happened on Wednesday afternoon. He was taken to Shaare Zedek hospital in Jerusalem.
The ambassador said medical teams were working to save his son’s life and thanked the Israeli military, hospital staff and those praying for his recovery.
“I believe in the power of prayer, and I believe that when the people of Israel unite, miracles happen. Neria needs a miracle,” Leiter said.
The driver was identified as Mahmoud Muhammad Mahmoud Suleiman, a 29-year-old Palestinian from the nearby village of Beit Ur al-Tahta. The Palestinian Ministry of Health said he was shot and killed at the scene, CNN reported.
The ambassador said his son had served hundreds of days in the reserves on multiple fronts since October 7, 2023, continuing his service after his older brother was killed while fighting in Gaza.
