2 killed, 8 injured as SUV and bus collide in Los Angeles

At least two people have been killed and eight others injured in a collision between a city bus and an SUV in Los Angeles, according to officials and local media. Firefighters are working to free trapped patients.

The crash was reported at 5:03 p.m. on Tuesday at 20900 West Nordhoff Street in Chatsworth, a neighborhood in the San Fernando Valley, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD).

The department said the first crew to arrive found numerous injured people after an MTA bus collided with a passenger vehicle. Firefighters are extricating those trapped and assessing everyone aboard the bus.

KABC, citing sources, reported that at least two people died and eight others suffered injuries ranging from critical to minor.

The SUV’s driver was the only person inside that vehicle, according to KABC. The driver’s condition was not immediately known.

Aerial footage from KABC showed a heavily damaged SUV against the side of the bus near a crosswalk, with firefighters working around both vehicles. Other footage showed emergency crews moving a person on a stretcher.
