Chicago man charged over alleged bomb threat against cruise ship from Bahamas

A Chicago man has been charged after allegedly calling a cruise ship and threatening to blow it up while it was carrying passengers from the Bahamas, according to federal prosecutors. The caller said he was aboard the vessel and had a bomb.

The threat was made on Dec. 6, 2025, according to a federal indictment filed in Orlando, Florida, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida.

Daquan Lamont Smith, 20, allegedly made the threat on Dec. 6, 2025, during a recorded call. The cruise ship was not identified.

“I’m coming from, I’m coming. I’m on the cruise boat coming from Bahamas that left two days ago, and I’m letting you guys know now I have a bomb on the boat and I want to blow it up,” Smith allegedly said during a recorded call.

Smith has been charged with interstate transmission of a threat. The FBI investigated the case. If convicted, he faces up to five years in federal prison.
