3 indicted over armed attempt to breach Nevada nuclear security facility
Two men and a woman have been indicted after two of them allegedly entered or attempted to enter a secured U.S. Department of Energy facility in Nevada while carrying a concealed firearm, according to federal prosecutors.
The incident happened on Aug. 5 at the Nevada National Security Sites facility in North Las Vegas, where Treyvon Jameel Currie and Jessica Marie Zamora allegedly entered or tried to enter the property with a concealed weapon, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Nevada.
The indictment also alleges that Zamora and Demandre Michael Frazier made false statements on federal firearms forms while buying two Smith & Wesson pistols in February.
In April, Zamora and another defendant whose identity was not publicly released allegedly made false statements while purchasing a third Smith & Wesson pistol.
The North Las Vegas facility is part of the Nevada National Security Sites, the Energy Department complex formerly known as the Nevada Test Site.
The complex, where the U.S. conducted nuclear weapons tests during the Cold War, now supports nuclear weapons stewardship, emergency response, nuclear forensics and other national-security missions.
Currie and Zamora each face charges of entry or attempted entry by fraud or false pretenses with intent to commit a felony, possessing a firearm in a secure federal facility, unauthorized entry at an Energy Department facility and introducing a dangerous weapon onto the property.
Zamora also faces two counts of illegal firearm acquisition, while Frazier faces one count. Authorities have not said why they allegedly tried to enter the facility or what they intended to do there.
