A 5 year old girl died after she gained access to an unsecured firearm and accidentally shot herself at an apartment complex in Fort Worth, Texas, according to police.

The shooting happened at about 7:45 p.m. Saturday at an apartment complex in the 2100 block of Revolutionary Way, according to the Fort Worth Police Department. Officers and firefighters found the child with an apparent gunshot wound and began providing medical aid before she was taken to Cook Children’s Medical Center.

The child was pronounced dead in the emergency room at 8:33 p.m., according to KDFW. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office identified her as 5-year-old Nhilynn Serenity Raell Robinson.

Fort Worth Police said early details indicate Robinson found an unsecured weapon and accidentally shot herself.

The medical examiner’s office listed the cause and manner of the girl’s death as pending. No arrests have been announced.
