Pennsylvania State Police helicopter involved in midair collision with small plane
A small plane has collided with a Pennsylvania State Police helicopter midair near Carlisle Airport in Pennsylvania, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and local media reports.
The FAA said the collision happened at about 7:50 p.m. Wednesday and involved a Cessna 150 airplane and a Bell 407 helicopter. Two people were aboard the helicopter, while the number of people aboard the Cessna was not immediately known.
Earlier reports from PennLive said 911 dispatchers issued a call involving a collision between a plane and a Pennsylvania State Police helicopter. The coroner was called to Carlisle Airport after the incident.
At least one patient was seen being loaded onto a Life Lion medical helicopter, according to PennLive. Officials have not released information about possible deaths, the number of injuries or the conditions of those involved.
Footage from the scene showed the heavily damaged state police helicopter and debris scattered in a grassy area near the runway. Debris from the plane was also visible behind the helicopter.
The airspace around Carlisle Airport was closed after the collision. The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will investigate.
