A Texas, man has been charged with threatening the judge and prosecutors involved in the sentencing of Colin Gray, the father of Apalachee High School shooter Colt Gray, according to federal prosecutors.

Brandon Dontrail Scroggins, 39, of Abilene, Texas, allegedly made the threats on July 30, when Barrow County Superior Court Judge Nicholas Primm presided over Colin Gray’s sentencing hearing, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia.

Colt Gray killed four people and injured nine others in the September 2024 shooting at Apalachee High School, the deadliest school shooting in Georgia history.

Prosecutors said Scroggins called the Barrow County District Attorney’s Office on the morning of the hearing and said he was coming to “take out” Barrow County over what he described as injustice.

He allegedly called again shortly afterward and left a voicemail threatening to travel to Georgia and harm employees of the office and their children.

About a minute later, Scroggins allegedly called Judge Primm’s chambers and left a voicemail warning that “a death date just came up for Nicholas Primm.” He also allegedly said the judge and “everything he love[s]” was “dead.”

Scroggins was charged on Aug. 7 with transmitting interstate communications containing threats to injure another person. He also faces federal charges in Alabama over an alleged threat against a federal judge, as well as state charges in Texas involving harassing phone calls.

He is being held by the U.S. Marshals Service in Texas pending further proceedings. The FBI is investigating.
