7th-grade student stabs teacher at Virginia middle school
A seventh-grade student has been charged after stabbing a teacher during class at a middle school in far southwestern Virginia, according to officials. The teacher was treated at a hospital and has since been released.
The incident happened Thursday morning at Jonesville Middle School in Jonesville, near the Tennessee border, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Gary Parsons said the student claimed to have obtained the knife from the school’s kitchen. A group of students inside the classroom helped subdue the student after the attack, WJHL reported.
The teacher was taken to a hospital for treatment and later released. The injuries are not considered life-threatening, but some required stitches.
The student has been charged with aggravated malicious wounding and assault and was taken to juvenile detention, Parsons said. A court appearance is expected at a later date.
All other students and staff members are safe. No names or further information have been released because the investigation remains ongoing.
