1 killed, 5 injured in shooting at Portland house party
One person was killed and five others were injured in a shooting at a home in Portland, Oregon, according to officials. No arrests have been made.
The shooting happened at about 3:33 a.m. on Sunday at a house in the 5800 block of Northeast Alberta Street in the Cully neighborhood, according to the Portland Police Bureau.
Portland Police Sgt. Kevin Allen said at a briefing on Sunday afternoon officers received information about multiple victims and a large crowd as they responded to reports of a shooting. Officers from across the North Precinct and other precincts began arriving within 10 minutes.
Hundreds of people and numerous vehicles were in the area when police arrived. Allen described the scene as chaotic, with officers working to identify victims and determine whether there was an ongoing threat.
Two people with gunshot wounds were found at the house. Officers provided first aid, including applying a tourniquet to one victim, before both were taken to a hospital by ambulance. Four other victims were taken to local hospitals in private vehicles.
An 18-year-old man was initially taken to Providence Portland Medical Center but was transferred to a Level I trauma center because of the severity of his injuries. He later died despite lifesaving efforts.
The five survivors include a 20-year-old man from Vancouver, Washington; a 21-year-old man from Portland; an 18-year-old woman from Gresham; a 15-year-old boy from Troutdale; and an 18-year-old from Portland. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Police found evidence that dozens of shots had been fired across multiple blocks. Investigators are still searching for additional evidence and interviewing people who attended the party.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is assisting with the investigation. Police did not disclose a possible motive or provide information about the suspect or suspects, who fled the scene.
