One person was killed and another was seriously injured in a shooting near a health clinic in northern Saskatchewan, Canada, that was initially reported as an active shooter incident, according to police. The suspect remains at large.

The shooting happened shortly before 2 p.m. on Monday near the local health clinic in Pelican Narrows, a remote community in northern Saskatchewan, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). Officials said the incident did not happen at the clinic itself, correcting an earlier emergency alert.

Officers found two victims when they arrived. One of them was pronounced deceased, while the other was seriously injured, according to RCMP. No other injuries have been reported to police.

Police described the suspect as a male wearing all black clothing and a face covering. Residents were warned not to approach anyone matching that description and to report suspicious activity immediately.

Earlier Monday, RCMP issued an emergency alert warning of an active shooter in Pelican Narrows and telling residents to find a safe location, lock their doors and stay away from the area. Police also told residents not to share police locations.

The victims’ names and ages have not been released, and police have not said what led to the shooting.

Police said the investigation is still unfolding and that officers are in the early stages of gathering evidence.
