Kohl’s will permanently close more than two dozen stores across 15 states by Saturday. California will be hit hardest, with 10 closures.
The company will also close an e-commerce fulfillment center in San Bernardino, California, in May, which has been operational since 2010.
The closures are part of a strategy to optimize store footprint amid a projected 2% net sales decrease for 2025 and a 7.2% sales decrease for 2024, alongside executive changes and a 10% workforce reduction.

Saturday, March 29, is the final day to shop at more than two dozen Kohl’s stores nationwide. According to Kohl’s website, the affected locations will close permanently at the end of business hours.
The closures span 15 states, with California being the hardest hit, seeing 10 locations shuttered. The company, headquartered in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, will also close an e-commerce fulfillment center in San Bernardino, California, in May. The center has been operational since 2010.
USA Today reports that Kohl’s projects a 2% net decrease in sales for 2025 and saw a 7.2% decrease in sales for 2024. The closures coincide with executive changes, a 10% workforce reduction, and ending Amazon returns at some stores.
Newsweek statesthe closures are part of a strategic reevaluation to optimize Kohl’s store footprint while expanding its partnership with Sephora.
