A Mother’s Day shooting in San Angelo, Texas, left one person dead and multiple others injured, according to officials. No arrest have been announced.

The shooting happened at about 1:20 a.m. Sunday in the 600 block of East 44th Street in San Angelo, a city in west-central Texas, where officers responded to a report of a shooting, Police Chief Travis Griffith said at a briefing.

Upon arrival, officers found multiple victims, including a 21-year-old San Angelo man who was pronounced deceased, according to Griffith. Police did not release the total number of victims or the extent of the other victims’ injuries.

Griffith said investigators believe the suspect and victims knew each other, and that police do not believe the shooting was random.

“In the early part of the investigation, we feel confident in saying that this is a known suspect-victim connection,” Griffith said. “Meaning that if you live in that area, there’s not some random crime occurring. We feel confident that the area is secured.”

Griffith said additional officers were in the area after the shooting. He said detectives were following several leads, but no suspect has been reported in custody.

“We have seen an increase in violent crime in the last couple months. That’s not what we want to see,” Griffith said. He added that, because the shooting happened on Mother’s Day, the focus should remain on the victims and their families.
