Trump says US can’t fund child care, Medicare, because of Iran war; Judge blocks immigration move

In this Media Miss Minute, President Donald Trump says it’s not “possible” for the federal government to fund Medicare, Medicaid and child care. Plus, a judge ruled the Trump administration cannot end the legal immigration status of certain migrants.

Media Miss by the right: Trump says US can’t fund child care, Medicaid, Medicare

Trump says the federal government cannot fund Medicare, Medicaid and child care — arguing resources should go to the war in Iran, according to NBC News.

During a White House Easter luncheon, Trump reportedly said he told Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought, “Don’t send any money for day care.”

He also said the federal government should not “take care of” Medicare and Medicaid either. He said that instead, funding all three services should be handled by the states as “we’re fighting wars.”

Media Miss by the left: Judge blocks Trump immigration move

A federal judge has ruled the Trump administration acted unlawfully in ending the legal status of migrants who entered the U.S. using the CBP One app.

In 2025, the Department of Homeland Security shut down the Biden-era app, which allowed migrants in Mexico to enter the U.S. while awaiting asylum hearings — effectively revoking the legal status of thousands.

The judge ruled the move was “not in accordance with the law” and said the terminations must be set aside. In a statement provided to NPR, DHS called the ruling “blatant judicial activism.”
