F-35 crashes at Nevada training range; pilot treated for minor injuries
An F-35 fighter jet crashed at a military training range north of Las Vegas, according to officials. The pilot ejected safely and was treated for minor injuries.
The incident happened around noon on Tuesday about 25 miles northeast of Indian Springs, on restricted federal land within the Nevada Test and Training Range, Nellis Air Force Base said in a statement. Sources told KSNV the pilot had reported trouble maneuvering before the crash.
Nellis said the pilot ejected before the crash and was safe and treated for minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.
“Emergency responders are on-scene and there is no impact to populated areas,” the statement said. “The safety of our personnel and the community remain our top priority.”
The Nevada Test and Training Range is a large military complex in southern Nevada and eastern California used for air combat training, weapons testing and classified operations.
The F-35 is a fifth-generation stealth fighter built by Lockheed Martin and is one of the U.S. military’s most advanced combat aircraft. Officials have not said which variant was involved.
