A Texas man has been charged after he allegedly stole human remains from multiple cemeteries and threw a bucket containing human bones over the fence of the FBI’s Dallas field office, according to officials.

The charges were announced Friday after investigators with the Bartonville Police Department, assisted by FBI agents and the Denton County Sheriff’s Office, executed a search warrant on March 18 at a home in the 500 block of Oakwood Drive in Bartonville, Texas.

Police said resident Michael Chadwick Fry, 41, was later taken into custody and charged with two counts of abuse of a corpse and one count of tampering with evidence.

The investigation began after Bartonville officers were dispatched to the residence for reports of suspicious activity. Police said the reporting party told officers that Fry had requested money to rent a U-Haul in order to “move a body.”

A bulletin was then issued to locate Fry and monitor for related suspicious activity. Shortly afterward, investigators received what police described as credible information from FBI special agents indicating that Fry had thrown a bucket containing human bones over the fence of the FBI’s Dallas field office.

Bartonville investigators and FBI agents then opened a joint investigation into Fry’s activities. During that investigation, police said Fry was found to have posted online videos depicting separate human remains and an urn of ashes at the Oakwood Drive residence.

Police later determined that Fry had stolen an urn containing human remains from a cemetery in Oklahoma City. The Oklahoma City Police Department had been investigating that theft since February.

Police also said FBI agents found evidence at a cemetery in Denton, Texas, indicating that a coffin containing human remains had been removed from a mausoleum.

Bartonville police confirmed to KDFW that Fry is the same man who crashed a truck into the FOX 4 building in downtown Dallas in 2018.

KDFW reported that Fry got out of the truck ranting and throwing papers onto the sidewalk, and that police later said he appeared to be seeking media attention over the 2012 police shooting of a friend in Denton County. The station said Fry later apologized during a court hearing.

The investigation into the human remains case remains active, according to Bartonville police. Authorities said next of kin have been notified.
